What a fantastic day we had at our first Charity Golf Day, at the championship 18-hole, Mercure George Washington  Golf Course.

The morning of Friday 20th May started bright and early with breakfast butties all around for our 100 golfers.  With the stakes high, our golfers did not want to start the day on empty stomachs!

In the comfort of the clubhouse, the atmosphere was relaxed and the golfing teams mingled, not missing the opportunity for a bit of friendly banter before the game commenced.  With brief instructions given by Golf Manager, Bill Michie, the men headed out to their starting holes ready and waiting for the 9.30am shotgun start!

It all teed off for a great game of golf.  With both individual and team prizes available and even a chance to win a car, this was serious business for our 25 teams taking part.

Alas, none of our golfers scored a hole in one at the ninth, so sadly no one drove away a brand new car on the day.  Nevertheless, we would like to say a huge THANK YOU to Lookers Nissan Gateshead for sponsoring this potential prize.

It was not all doom and gloom at the ninth hole however, after all, the refreshments tent was strategically placed so golfers could take a break from the tension to enjoy a cold beverage and snacks.  But that wasn’t the best part, also hanging around the refreshment tent was our very own charity mascot Tim Lamb ready and waiting for a photo opportunity with the golfers passing through.

By 2pm all our golfers had completed the course and were ready for their buffet lunch and award ceremony.  Congratulations to Rob Allison and his team for winning the overall Team Prize.  Winners received a trophy, golf tops, caps and a 4 Ball voucher for Linden Hall Golf Club.

Competition aside, we are delighted to have raised just short of £4,200 for our charity.  This will make a huge difference to the lives of the disabled children we support.

We are very grateful to everyone who took part on the day and many thanks to all of the companies and individuals who donated prizes for the raffle and/or sponsored a hole.  We also appreciated all the donations for our halfway house refreshments tent.  And finally, we’d like to say a special thank you to Bill and his team from Mercure George Washington Golf Course for your fantastic support throughout the day, you did us proud!

Such was the success of the day, we are planning to make this an annual event.  We hope to see you all again in May next year!
