Rising Sun Country Park

Want to make a day of it?  Then why not combine a visit to the Tim Lamb Centre, alongside spending time in the Rising Sun Country Park for the perfect day out!

Visitors to our centre, often take advantage of our lovely country park setting whilst they are here.  With several miles of countryside track, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy a walk (or bike ride), before or after visiting our centre.  Boasting a woodland nature reserve; several wildlife ponds (big and small); plus the Rising Sun Farm, there is plenty to see and do.

Whilst visiting, it is not unusual to see our very own country park celebrity ‘Colin the Stag’ (as he is fondly known by locals).  Unlike all the other wild deer living in the park, Colin doesn’t shy away from the public eye.  He can often be found mingling happily with the horses and is more than happy to pose for a photo or two (at a socially acceptable distance of course).

Aside from Colin the Stag and the other wild deer, there is plenty more wildlife to try and spot around the country park, including rabbits, foxes and bats.  There is a huge variety of wild birds nesting among the trees, including owls and other wild birds of prey.  Plus there is a wide range of waterfowl living across the two large ponds and several smaller ones which are dotted around the country park.  There are also 3 dipping ponds where you never know what pond-life species you might find.  The country park is also a great place for a mini beast hunt too.

There are a range of walking and cycling routes around the country park, with the blue and green routes being level access suitable for wheelchair users and pushchairs.  The main country park route map can be found here which details the blue and green routes and how to reach the Rising Sun Farm.  The park has recently been extended to include a new path around Dukes Pond and connecting pathways.  More details and a map of this specific area can be found here.

Free parking is available for both the Rising Sun Country Park and our centre via the main country park entrance off Whitley Road (next to Asda Benton).
